Diligent and responsible student, talented author, and extraordinary scholar Victoria Gaibonyuk is a first wave student of the UCU Master’s Programme in Media Communication. Victoria searched and tested herself in various fields: narrative journalism and advertising communications, media psychology and media monitoring, essayistic and media analysis. And all of a sudden she plunged herself into the video… fully and irrevocably.
“I filmed my first documentary “Kioskerka (Kathrin)” for the “Multimedia technologies” competition programme of Andrij Semeniuk. Rather unexpectedly it emerged triumphant at the film festival in the category “Documentary Films” (February 2015).
After such a brilliant start, Victoria completely switched to the video editing sphere. While still studying at the Programme, she began working as a videographer at MJoy Multimedia where she remained employed.
As soon as Victoria got her Master degree, the Department of Media Communication invited her to teach the course “Multimedia Technologies”, as well as to work as a mentor at the International School of Multimedia Journalism. “Teaching a course to students at their department is an amazing experience!” she says.
While studying at UCU, Vica applied for a Fulbright Student Programme scholarship to gain a degree in another master’s programme, abroad. In August 2016, Victoria went to study multimedia journalism at the University of Oregon, the University of Oregon in Portland.
“This summer, I plan to travel from the west to the east coast of the states – from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine. On the way, I will shoot my final project (documentary). I am still discussing its concept with my mentors “.
Victoria recalls her studies at UCU with particular admiration: “During my studies at the Master’s programme, I experienced a lot of wonderful things: starting from participation in the Student Media Symposium and implementing my book exchange project “Book Quest” and ending with counselling on my Master thesis with the multimedia journalism guru, Henry Jenkins”.
Her own department is looking forward to Victoria’s return after training and offers her to join the media communication team.
